On November 30, 2023, the Parliament of Cyprus approved the “Law on granting citizenship in an accelerated manner to highly qualified foreign specialists.”

This move opens up new prospects for foreign nationals working in Cyprus.

Significant changes in the naturalization process:

According to the innovations, foreign workers from third countries now have the right to obtain Cypriot citizenship after 4-5 years, instead of the standard 7 years.

Benefits for foreign employees:

The adoption of this law creates favorable conditions for many foreign employees and members of their families. In a few years they can become European citizens, making Cyprus a very attractive destination for those seeking a European Union passport.

Basic conditions for naturalization

Level of Greek language

Application is possible after 5 years of residence upon reaching the Greek language level A2 or even after 4 years at level B1. These requirements also apply to their family members, meaning that family members must also reach the specified level of Greek language proficiency in order to be able to apply for Cypriot citizenship.

Minimum wage

Applicants must receive a minimum salary of at least 2,500 euros per month.

Accommodation in Cyprus

One of the conditions for obtaining a residence permit is the availability of appropriate housing, which can be either owned or rented. This requirement is aimed at ensuring stable living conditions and adaptation of foreign workers in the country.

✅ High qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate high academic and professional qualifications.

✅ Clean reputation

The applicant must provide evidence of no criminal record and not be on the international wanted list.
